Return Of The Gruner Burger!

For some, the worst thing about the recent closure of Grüner, chef Chris Israel’s Alpine-inspired restaurant, was the loss of one ofPortland’s best burgers.

Well, fret no more. The Grüner burger, with its juicy ground beef, house-cured bacon, fontina, arugula and aioli, will migrate across the river to The Loyal Legion, Southeast Portland’s 99-tap, all-Oregon beer bar.

Keith Morris, the former Executive Chef at Grüner, is headed to the Loyal Legion to take over the bar and its upstairs events space, The Evergreen, according to Kurt Huffman, whose ChefStable restaurant group backs both. Morris will introduce the burger, along with a renewed emphasis on scratch-made food, including a new house sauerkraut, to a menu already full of good Olympia Provisions sausages.
